欢迎各位来参加第四届北欧纪录片电影节。一年一度的北欧纪录片电影节又将在这里 -北京尤伦斯当代艺术中心，这个北京最具影响力的、最开放的文化聚集地来展现北欧电影人独特的观察世界的视角。
今年北欧纪录片电影节播放的影片的内容有关于海地太阳城危险的三角恋爱，波兰罗兹救护车里的谋杀，肯尼亚大选街头的暴乱，有芬兰跳蚤市场的发现，丹麦Roskilde音乐节的裸奔，澳大利亚以垃圾为生的环保主义者，芬兰家庭的节油，还有关于世界上最好的食品工业和美国死刑犯最后的晚餐。这些场景和片断构成了今年电影节的主要基调，理性，直白，尖锐，热情，冷酷，节俭，放任&#8230;

<p>We&#8217;d like to welcome you to Nordox, Nordic Documentary Film Festival Beijing, a yearly documentary film event, which is now approaching its fourth edition. This year Nordox is continuing its collaboration with Beijing&#8217;s most exciting cultural venue, the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, to host all screenings and events. Visit Nordox 2009 for a showcase of unique Nordic perspectives on the world.</p>
<p>Nordox 2009 has a vast range of films lined up for you this year. A quick flick through the scenes of this year&#8217;s films will take you to a dangerous love triangle in the Cité Soleil slum in Haiti, to the ambulance murders in Lodz, Poland, to the Kenya election riots, to magical flea market discoveries in Finland, to the Roskilde naked run in Denmark, to Australian trash can raiders, to Finnish oil diets, to the best food industry in the world and to the last supper for those on death row in American prisons. These scenes and fragments constitute the main highlights of this year&#8217;s film selection.</p>
<p>For 2009 the film selection is based on several themes. We will continue with Nordox&#8217; red thread of Socio- politically engaged films under a Socio-political theme. New themes this year are &#8220;Green&#8221; showing films concerning environmental protection and &#8220;Art &amp; Music&#8221; screening films that are concerned with the arts. Beside screening more and more varied films this year Nordox will also host three special days, a Sweden day, a Norway day and a Finland day to showcase the best of our selection of films from these countries along with director visits and embassy activities.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s our honour this year to welcome award-winning director of &#8220;Ghosts of Cité Soleil&#8221; Asger Leth, award-winning director of &#8220;Necrobusiness&#8221; Fredrik von Krusenstjerna, the director of the Norwegian film &#8220;From Prison to Parliament&#8221;, Charlotte Røhder Tvedt, one of the directors of &#8220;Last Supper&#8221;, Mats Bigert, &#8220;Iceberg Shadow&#8221; director Antti Seppanen and &#8220;Facing Changes&#8221; director Mika Koskinen. Nordox will also open up the screening platform to the star of the film &#8220;Hunting Down Memory&#8221; Øyvind Aamot from Norway and a familiar Beijing Face, Kang Mao of the band Subs, who stars in the film &#8220;Rock Heart Beijing&#8221;. Through Q &amp; A sessions with the audience Nordox aims at creating a platform for these creators and collaborators to share their first-hand film-making experience and to exchange ideas, insights and reactions. In addition, to kick off the start of Nordox and to warmly welcome you to the festival we&#8217;ve organized an opening ceremony with DJ&#8217;s, which will start at Ullens and continue into the wee hours at Bed Bar on Zhang Wang Hutong.</p>
<p>Nordox would like to thank the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art for having provided Nordox with the opportunity to host such an exciting festival. Nordox would also like to extend its sincere gratitude to the Royal Norwegian Embassy, the Embassy of Sweden, the Embassy of Finland, the Royal Danish Embassy and the Embassy of Iceland as well as the Danish Cultural Institute and the Film Institutes of the Nordic countries for their continued trust and support. 	同时，这个电影节也为中国观众提供了一个了解北欧文化以及北欧民众所关注的问题的良好机会。我猜想，参展影片中所提出和探讨的问题对某些观众也许是崭新和陌生的。非但如此，也许北欧国家提出并关注这些问题就是一件令人诧异的事情。
	我相信今后两周即将放映的影片将给我们提供许多进行探讨和做出评价的机会。因此，电影节的问答单元将是此次活动的一个宝贵部分。我们十分高兴为数众多的中国导演前来参加今年的电影节以及研讨活动。
	此外，这次北欧纪录电影节也是北欧国家开展合作的一次好机会。北欧各国已经在今年秋季的数个活动中进行过合作，我们期待将来还有更多这样的合作机会。

<p>Dear movie enthusiasts, colleagues and friends,</p>
<p>It is a great pleasure for me to be here today and participate in the opening of Nordox 2009. Nordox is the only Nordic documentary festival in China and is this year arranged for the 4th time. This film festival gives us a great opportunity to focus on social topics of relevance all over the world, but seen from different perspectives. </p>
<p>It is also a great opportunity for the Chinese audience to learn more about the Nordic culture and what topics people in our countries are concerned about. I would guess that some of the topics discussed and raised in these movies might be new and unfamiliar to some of the audience. That these topics are raised and focused on in the Nordic countries might also be surprising. </p>
<p>I am sure that the program during the next two weeks will give us many opportunities for discussions and evaluation. The Q&#038;A sessions will be a valuable part of that and we are very pleased that there will be some many director visits and Q&#038;A sessions during this year’s Nordox. </p>
<p>Nordox 2009 is again a great opportunity for Nordic cooperation. We have collaborated on several other activities this autumn, and we also look forward to more opportunities like this in the future. </p>
<p>We would like to thank Henri and all of those involved in Nordox for their engagement and dedication to this festival. I would also like to thank Ullens Center for Contemporary Art for hosting the festival. </p>

The festival has become familiar with locals and long-term Beijingers as the film festival that gives you high-quality Nordic documentaries that makes you think and discuss. This is for sure the case for this year’s Nordox as well; packet with movies that highlights topics of interest and concern both in the Nordic countries and in China.</p>
<p>Nordox gives us a great opportunity to see and experience important social topics from different perspectives. The director visits and Q&#038;A sessions are unique chances to also get feedback and reactions to our understanding of the movies, and thus contribute to an even better understanding of the content.</p>
<p>Nordox 2009 gives a broad and diverse image of Norway and the Norwegian culture. We are sure that the Norwegian movies will lead to discussions and conversations about topics that have not previously been associated to Norway or the Nordic culture.</p>
<p>Nordox is a very important part of the cultural scene and annual cultural activities in Beijing and we really appreciate the effort the festival and those behind it have made in order to introduce the Nordic culture to a broader audience.</p>
<p>We sincerely hope Nordox 2009 will be a great success and that we will see the continuance of the festival and other collaborations it leads to also in the future.</p>

<p>The reality of life today in Haiti unfolds before us as we get to know two brothers and their stories intimately. They are 2Pac and Bily, Haitian gang leaders who strive to make better choices in a world with no choices at all. Through unprecedented access, we see the brothers&#8217; love and hatred for each other, their love triangle with Lele, a French relief worker, and their unsavory pact with President Aristide during his desperate grasp to maintain power in early 2004.  Speaking the language of violence and knowing that staying alive in Haiti is a very day-to-day proposition, 2Pac and Bily struggle to find a better life for themselves and for their people. “Ghosts of Cité Soleil” is the story of young armed men from the slum, being used for political purposes. It is a testament of desperate dreams in a ghetto world where dog eats dog, with hip-hop and rap music as an existential part of their desperate hope for survival in Cité Soleil &#8211; the most dangerous place on earth.</p>

<p>纪录片行业的巨作！90年代末，波兰政府发行了一项提供给波兰公民死者家属的葬礼基金。而波兰罗兹市的殡仪从业者却把他们贪婪的双手伸向了这笔基金。 通过贿赂救护车司机，找到死者家属信息，利用他们仍沉浸在巨大悲痛中、无心看完厚重合同的机会，骗取他们转交基金的签名。当救护车司机说出“死人越多我们 越赚”这样的话时，我们看到了巨大的丑恶。而贪欲也使最初的诈骗也演变成了谋杀…</p>

<p>During the late 90&#8217;s, the Polish government issued a burial fund to the relatives of any deceased citizen. Now the undertakers of Lodz in Poland have figured out a way to lay their greedy hands on those funds. By paying ambulance drivers to get the information where the unfortunate relatives live, they went there with contracts to get the relatives to sign over the burial funds to the undertakers. The idea was that while the relatives was still struck with grief and sorrow, they wouldn&#8217;t want to read through a thick contract and just sign it instead. Things really went ugly when the ambulance drivers figured out that they would make more money if more people died. Something that started as a swindle ended up in murder…</p>

<p>只要死刑仍然存在，给死刑犯提供最后的晚餐这一传统就不会消失。而这一传统源自给将死之人提供食物，以保护他们在去往来生的道路。今天，给罪犯提供最后的晚餐这一仪式已脱离了它起源的意义，而这一仪式本身就和死刑一样荒唐。Mats<br />

<p>Last Supper (IDFA official selection)</p>
<p>The last supper has been given to prisoners facing the death penalty<br />
as long as the punishment has existed. The tradition stems from<br />
funeral rites where the deceased person was given food on his deathbed<br />
to protect him on his journey to the afterlife. Today, the ritual of<br />
giving the last supper to the condemned person has been detached from<br />
its origin, and can be perceived to be as absurd as the punishment it<br />
accompanies. Mats Bigert Lars Bergström&#8217;s film Last Supper focuses on<br />
this discrepancy between historical “meaning” and contemporary use of<br />
a tradition that has lost its connection with the past. The film mixes<br />
documentary material with sculptural installations and animated<br />
graphics. The main character is the former death row chef Brian Price,<br />
who reconstructs one of the 200 final meals that he prepared during<br />
his time as inmate in Huntsville State Prison, Texas, US.</p>

<p>肯尼亚2007年选举骚乱爆发的两年之前，肯尼亚籍挪威人彼得欧让吉瓦正在挪威的Bastoy监狱服刑，罪名是贪污。他狱中的室友叫他“总统”，因为他计划作为候选人参加肯尼亚的议会选举。他的目标是不用贿赂任何选民在议会中赢得一个席位。他立志要为民主和反腐败而战。彼得承认贪污是不对的，但也对肯尼亚的民主运动有一定的帮助。为了正当的目的可以不择手段。他的狱友决定去肯尼亚帮助彼得实现他的目标。电影跟拍了整个选举，展现了从挪威监狱到肯尼亚议会这一过程中的困难和彼得乐观的精神。</p>

<p>Two years prior to the 2007 election riots in Kenya, Norwegian-Kenyan<br />
Peter O. Ranginya is serving time at Bastøy prison in Norway,<br />
convicted of embezzlement. His fellow inmates call him “The<br />
President”, because he plans to run as a candidate in the Kenyan<br />
Parliamentary elections. The goal is to win a seat in Parliament<br />
without bribing a single voter. He will fight for democracy &amp; against<br />
corruption. Peter admits that the embezzlement was a mistake, but<br />
still it was a way to help the democratic movement in Kenya. The end<br />
justifies the means. His cellmate decides to go to Kenya to help Peter<br />
achieve his goal. The film follows the election; the hard work and<br />
Peter&#8217;s optimism, from Norwegian prison to the Kenyan Parliament.</p>

<p>This is a documentary about the toughest girls in the 9th grade. About<br />
youthful presumption, loyalty, deceit, and female power structures at<br />
an age when everything is at stake. The film focuses on two groups of<br />
girls at Ruseløkka School. One of the girls has joined both<br />
environments, the toughest gang and the less daring Frogner girls.<br />
After a while, it&#8217;s only a matter of time before she will be forced to<br />
choose between the two gangs, decide which friends to abandon, and<br />
which identity to assume.</p>

<p>营销主管Bao Huai代表了中国正在崛起的中产阶级, 就在他和他的朋友加入迅猛发展的整容大军的同时, 北京的容貌也已从非典变为了奥运会。同时, 整个人类的文明都面临着全球气候变化和环境灾害的威胁, 而我们甚至不愿面对这样的转变。问题就在于我们在面对转变时的短视。我们缺乏认识和适应长期变化的能力。在西方国家, 自然对民主制度的妥协使得认识和纠正转变的速度都过于缓慢。而在中国, 这种转变被更广泛的个人利益和实际情况所掩盖, 因为只有这样才不会有人在这一过程中丢面子。这也就是为什么在很多时候, 最糟的是可以预见的生态灾难即将发生的这种状态 。</p>

<p>Facing Changes</p>
<p>Marketing director Bao Huai represents chinese rising upper middle class, when he and his friends are changing faces within booming plastic surgery industry while the city of Beijing is changing its face from SARS to Olympics. Meanwhile the whole human civilization is threatened by global climate change and environmental disasters that we are not willing to see even we are facing them. The question is in our shortsightedness in front of a change. Our disability to recognize and adapt or affect to the long-term changes. In the western countries the changes are milder to recognize and the cure can also be too slow due to compromizing nature of democratic system. In China the change is shadowed with wider individual intresses and truths so that no-one would loose one’s face in the process. This is why in many cases the worst is about to happen, which we can see i.e. in the ecological disasters.</p>

<p>Imagine a village somewhere deep in Eastern Europe. For more than a<br />
century, its nationality has changed in a season-like cadenza: first<br />
it belonged to the Hapsburg Empire, then to Czechoslovakia, next to<br />
Hungary, then to the Soviet Union. In recent years, things have grown<br />
even more complex. At the end of World War II, the Russians<br />
established a border that divided the village of Szelmenc (population<br />
1,100) over two separate countries. Families on one side live in<br />
Slovakia, which is now a member of the European Union. On the other<br />
side, their relatives suffer from the unstable political and economic<br />
circumstances in Ukraine. One solution would be to build a<br />
border-crossing, to reunite families after 60 years and to generate<br />
some economic structure. The film starts with the trip that the mayors<br />
of Little Szelmenc and Great Szelmenc made to Washington in 2004,<br />
where they urged the necessity of constructing a border-crossing at<br />
the congressional Human Rights Caucus. Two years later, it was built –<br />
but who is actually benefiting from it?</p>

</span></strong></span></span>It was almost 5 years ago when DJ Donald Summer (aka <span>Thomas</span> Gaestadius) arrived to China and met Will Yorke, a connection that would lay the roots of what was to grow and continue growing. He and Yorke teamed up to form The Mug Up Phonies, a successful house music DJ duo in Beijing from 2005 through 2007. As the founding member of BaiCai and co-owner of White Rabbit Club in Beijing &#8212; the best underground dance club to hit the capital in a long time.</p>

美国电影杂志《Variety》这样评价《太阳城的幽灵》: “能拍出这样的影片而导演还活下来真是太不可思议了！” 而就是这位丹麦导演Asger Leth，现在要来到北京，参加我们北欧纪录片电影节的开幕式，谈论他的电影并与中国的观众进行交流。
《太阳城的幽灵》- 简介
太子港的贫民窟，太阳城，被称作全世界最危险的地方。这里被一支叫做Chimeres（幽灵）的黑帮势力统治着。而这个黑帮受雇于总统阿里斯蒂德，来对付他的反对党。导演Asger Leth不仅在极端严峻的环境下拍摄了影片《太阳城的幽灵》，还成功地取得了两名最重要的黑帮首领、既是兄弟又是对手的2pac和Bily的信任。这一切的结果就是一部既包含了两兄弟对同一个女人的爱情斗争，阿里斯蒂德的倒台，又包含了他们想要像其偶像-这部影片的作曲-Wycliff Jean那样，通过说唱音乐来逃离贫民窟的影片的诞生。

《失忆》是一部有关名叫岛之风的挪威男子突然丢失了他27年记忆的真实故事。他不记得自己生命中的任何事情，任何事！对大多数人而言，这将是他们人生中一件不幸且可怕的经历。但对岛之风来说，这却是一场冒险。他既没有受创伤也没有瘫痪，他只是充满了好奇。他想知道在自己身上发生了什么事，当然也想知道干酪和蓝莓派的味道。

<p><strong>Asger Leth – Director of “Ghosts of Cité Soleil”</strong><br />
American film magazine Variety wrote about “Ghosts of Cité soleil”: “It&#8217;s amazing it even exists and that the director is still alive”. Danish director, Asger Leth, is now coming to Beijing to attend the openening of the festival, talk about his movie and answer questons from the audience.</p>
<p><strong>“Ghosts of Cité Soleil” &#8211; A brief introduction: </strong><br />
The slum of Port Au Prince, Cité Soleil, is named one of the most dangerous places on earth, ruled by the Chimeres – “the ghosts” hired by then president Aristide to fight the opposition. Not only did Asger Leth shoot his film “Ghosts of Cité Soleil” in this extremely dangerous environment – he managed to gain the trust from two of the most prominent gang leaders, 2pac and Bily, brothers and rivals. The result is a movie that contains both the story of two brothers rivalry, the love to the same woman, Aristide’s fall, and the dream of escaping the slum through the way of rap music – like their great idol Wycliff Jean, who produced the music for this film.<br />

<p><strong>“Necrobusiness” – A brief introduction</strong><br />
A Documentary set in Lodz, Poland, where paramedics and undertagers worked together during the late 90’s to get hold of the government subsidies that relatives of the deceased usually got for the funeral. Something that started as a swindle ended up in murder!</p>
<p><strong>Øyvind Aamot/Wind – Star in “Hunting Down Memory”</strong><br />
Øyvind Aamot, the man portrayed in Thomas Lien’s film “Hunting Down Memory”, will visit this years Nordox Festival. “It’s like having your hard disk deleted,” according to one of the doctors who examined Øyvind when he returned to Norway. At the age of 27, he had to start learning how the world functions. Hear what he has to tell at this year’s Nordox Festival.</p>
<p><strong>“Hunting Down Memory” – A brief introduction</strong><br />
“Hunting Down Memory” is a true story about Øyvind Aamot, who suddenly lost 27 years of his memory. He remembered nothing from his life. NOTHING! For most people, this would have been a dreadful experience, an ominous and frightening event in their life. For Øyvind, it was an adventure. He is neither traumatized nor paralyzed, he is just curious. He wants to know what happened, but he would also like to know what cottage cheese and blueberry pie taste like.</p>

<p>Nordox is an annual meeting point for Nordic documentary films held in Beijing, China. The festival is recognized as a place to meet new, creative, cutting-edge contemporary documentary film from the Nordic countries where every year new themes and perspectives are explored. The festival attracts a high presence of Chinese as well as an international audience in Beijing.</p>
<p>Nordox was founded in 2006 as part of the Dashanzi International Art Festival on the grounds of 798 art district. The festival programme was set up as an exploration into the film language for documentary. With its 2006 selection Nordox aimed to transcend the boundaries of existing documentary film classification. The programme especially focused on director Lars von Trier&#8217;s Dogumentary Manifesto, this was chosen to set off a discussion about minimizing manipulation within documentary film production and whether or not this could bring us closer to reality. The festival received positive feedback from both audience and media. Over the course of the week the festival received an estimated 1000 festival visitors.</p>
<p>The 2007 version of Nordox took place at both the 798 Art Festival and the MIDI Music Festival, in co-operation with Greenpeace, Nordox showed one of the most ambitious projects in the history of the Swedish National Television Company &#8211; &#8220;The Planet&#8221;, as a call for more environmental awareness and action. The film was widely seen and well received by the Midi Festival and 798 Art Festival visitors.</p>
<p>International news cases and their social and political implications were a focus point for last year&#8217;s Nordox 2008 festival, this was set up as a platform to discuss the social and ethical value of documentary film art as a form of mass media. 2008 saw an extension of our programme with numerous director and filmmaker visits and Q&amp;A discussions with an enthusiastic audience response. The festival was held inside UCCA, Ullens Center for Contemporary Art&#8217;s screening room, inside the 798 art district. UCCA founder Guy Ullens and the Swedish ambassador Mikael Lindström attended the opening.</p>

在参展的影片当中，Nordox2008将放映由挪威导演Line Halvorsen执导的片子&#8221;USA vs Al-Arian&#8221;。故事追踪Sami Al-Arian的案件。在缺乏确凿证据的情况下，他被美国政府指控与恐怖份子勾结。影片深入地记述了此案的进展以及它对Al-Arian家庭的影响。另一部参展的影片是由芬兰制片人Elina Hirvonen所制作的《天堂—旅行三部曲》。由三个小片段所组成的故事讲述了非洲移民涌向欧洲，企盼在欧洲开始新的生活。镜头下美丽的画面与故事本身所传达的艰辛成了鲜明的对比。由导演Mikael Wiström和Alberto Hersckovits所执导的《庇护所》让我们的心更贴近家的方向。影片将一位音乐家，一位摄影师记录所拍摄的昔日瑞典风景和一位著名瑞典诗人的诗歌错综复杂的交织在一起，呈现出了一段极富诗意美感的荒诞离奇的电影之旅。影展中的这一类有关艺术家和艺术项目的影片也给我们提供了艺术创作的独特视角。

<p>Nordox aims to showcase the most recent developments in documentary film making from the Nordic world as well as to create a platform for discussion and exchange between both ends of the Eurasian continent. Year upon year we see a wide range of interesting, captivating and well-made films coming out of the Nordic countries. The region’s well-trained professionals, film funding system, film critics and its indispensable audience makes for a very high quality of documentary films. We’d very much like to share a slice of this Nordic film flavour with the audience in Beijing. The festival started in 2006 and is held annually. Nordox 2008 will take place from October 18th to 25th at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art.</p>
<p>In 2008, a focus point for this year’s festival will be the social and political investigation of international news cases, to discuss the social and ethical value of documentary film art as a form of mass media. We would like to show that there are many different voices within the Nordic countries that express their political opinions on world issues, such as globalization, war, terrorism, freedom of expression and over-consumption, in a very unique way. Therefore we aim to show critical reflections from the Nordic world not only on developments within their own borders but also those taking place millions of miles away.</p>
<p>Nordox 2008 will also be welcoming Line Halvorsen director of the film USA vs Al-Arian and Maud Nycander director of The Nun to the Nordox auditorium at UCCA for a presentation of their work and Q&amp;A sessions with you, the audience…</p>

<p>电影讲述一个从未经历爱情的八十二岁的单身老男人维戈先生和年轻的俄罗斯修女安夫罗西娅如何投缘进入对方的生活的一故事。五十年前维戈买了海氏伯城堡，并计划把城堡变成了修道院。现在他的梦想就要成真，因为有一群俄罗斯尼姑已经在来这儿的路上了。但是，尼姑们有自己的计划和愿望，维戈先生必须明白通往梦想成真的道路并非和想像的一样吻合。该片在2006年在荷兰的IDFA国际纪录片电影节上获伊文斯大奖。</p>

<p>The Monastery</p>
<p>This film shows the story of the 82-year-old bachelor Mr. Vig, who has never known love, and Sister Amvrosija, a young Russian nun, who by chance, or destiny, becomes part of his life. 50 years ago Jørgen Lauersen Vig bought Hesbjerg Castle, with the purpose of turning it into a monastery. Now, years later, he is about to realize his dream. A group of Russian Orthodox nuns are on their way, and thus Mr. Vigs life-long dream is about to come true. But, nuns have plans and wills of their own, and Mr. Vig must realize that the road to fulfilling his dream is very different than what he imagined. The film won IDFA’s Joris Ivens award in 2006.</p>

<p>《世界的边境》</p>
<p>1952年至1972年，20年间，一家州立孤儿院强制性的将128位小男孩从他们原本的家庭中夺走，在那儿他们遭受了身心的虐待和侵犯。曾经被送往这一家孤儿院的男孩中的绝大多数人，长大后都无法融入社会，继而被送往监狱及精神病院的。这些男孩中超过30位结束了自己的生命。</p>
<p>在这部影片当中，6位曾被送往这家孤儿院的男人，分享了他们的故事。他们到底过着什么样的生活，以及这段经历如何影响了他们的一生。这是一部满怀情感的片子，一个用尊严和沉默说出的故事。</p>

<p>At the Edge of the World</p>
<p>From 1952 until 1972 one hundred and twenty-eight boys were taken from their families at a young age and placed in an institution, run by the state, where they suffered physical, sexual and psychological abuse.</p>
<p>A large number of those committed to this institution came into conflict with society and ended up in jails and psychiatric institutions. More than 30 of the 128 boys have ended their lives.<br />
In the film, six of the men who were sentenced to the institution as boys, tell their story and how the stay there has influenced all their life. It&#8217;s an emotional story, told with dignity and reserve.</p>

In Belarus, the totalitarian regime cracks down on all opposition. Anyone criticising the dictator risks imprisonment and torture. The film, Belarusian Waltz follows the incredible personal story of the performance artist Alexander Pushkin, who is one of very few who is not scared. Facing grave consequences he organizes public stunts that mock president Lukashenko. Through his art and sense of humour we take a deep dive into the soul of the Belarusian people.</p>
<p>about the director: Andrzej Fidyk has directed more than 40 documentaries for Polish and British television and has received numerous awards for his work. Fidyk is by many regarded as Poland’s finest documentary director, and his filmography includes titles such as Battu&#8217;s Bioscope (aka Mobile Cinema of Dreams, 1998) and The Parade (1989). This is his first documentary for Piraya Film; his second one (Yodok Stories) is in production.</p>

<p>My Daughter the Terrorist</p>
<p>What makes anyone want to blow themselves up for a cause? In this intimate and personal portrait we join two young female elite soldiers of Sri-Lanka&#8217;s Tamil Tigers trained for the ultimate mission. We share their childhood experiences, their dreams and their families’ loss. Left behind are the mothers.<br />
Dharsika and Puhalchudar belong to the last batch of the Black Tigers, and are now equipped for the last mission: strapping an American-made Claymore mine to their bodies, able to blow themselves and everything within 100 feet to pieces. We first meet them at an optimistic time: The peace talks are making progress, and the Black Tigers are officially decommissioned. The girls are serving as ordinary soldiers.</p>
<p>The girls have a close friendship. For seven years they have been eating, sleeping, training and fighting side by side. They can survive for weeks in the jungle without supplies. They don’t know exactly how many enemies they’ve killed in ordinary battle.</p>
<p>Dharsika’s family is typical: the father died in the war. We meet her mother, who has been struggling to bring up her family in a war-torn society. She tells us that Dharsika stayed with the family just long enough to bury her father, then disappeared into the guerilla’s hands. She is proud of her daughter’s fight for their homeland.</p>
<p>about the director: Beate Arnestad worked for many years and in many different positions at Norwegian broadcaster NRK, mainly in the divisions of culture and entertainment. Her first documentary was &#8220;Where the waves sing&#8221; (2002), tracing the life of a former painter and governor in the forgotten Danish-Norwegian colony Tranquebar in India. While living in Sri Lanka from 2003 to 2006, she started exploring the concept of women in war, which turned into the film &#8220;My daughter the terrorist.&#8221; She is currently starting work on a new documentary, this time based on recent African history.</p>

<p>The Nun</p>
<p>A documentary about a young Swedish woman’s decision to devote her life entirely to God. Completely closed to the mass media and all outsiders, the Carmelite Convent in Glumslöv in the south of Sweden granted an exception for Maud Nycander to meet and interview Marta at the end of her novitiate.</p>
<p>Nycander has followed Marta and her family since 1996 when Marta graduated from high school and made her radical decision. The film is an extraordinary meeting with a deeply religious family. The Nun was winner of Prix Italia 2007 and got a Swedish Guldbagge for best documentary 2007.<br />

Paradise &#8211; Three Journeys in this World</em></p>
<p>A documentary film about dreams, immigrants and Spanish tomatoes  ”I thought that when I go to Europe, everything would be fine. When I came to Europe, I cried. When I came to Spain, I cried.”  Elina Hirvonen’s Paradise – Three Journeys In This World is a poetic documentary about immigration from Africa to Europe. In the first journey we travel along the route of tomato trucks to Almeria, Spain, where illegal immigrants from Africa harvest vegetables for European consumers. We meet 24-year-old Bakary Fofana, who, dreaming of a better life, has left his home village in Mali. The second journey takes us to Morocco, where numerous immigrants are willing to do anything to get to Europe. We meet Adam, who has escaped war in the Ivory Coast. He has walked over 1000 kilometres from the desert on the border of Morocco and Mauritania to the capital, Rabat. The third journey takes us through the desert to Bakary Fofana’s home village on the border of Mali and Mauritania.</p>

She also studies documentary film at the University of Art and Design Helsinki UIAH, School of Motion Picture, Television and Production Design. Her debut novel &#8216;When I forgot&#8217; was published in Finland 2005, and the translation rights have been sold to British, Swedish, German, Polish, Estonian, Italian and Icelandic publishers. <p>Musician David Sandström crashed when his punk band Refused came to a brutal halt during a US-gig in 1998. Punk had delivered him into the world. Now he returned to his native Västerbotten in the north of Sweden to make music that could bring him home, to his own family. David’s grandmother put the books The Tar Still and Cloudberry Land by Sara Lidman in his hands. The photographs of Sune Jonsson entered his apartment in Umeå. Since then Sara Lidman is his constant companion. In the film Sanctuary (Tillflykt) her words and the photographs of Sune Jonsson are weaved together with David’s music and his own travelling inwards and homewards. Sanctuary tries to touch what Sara Lidman once expressed; “I want to depict everything, but the things I most dearly want to get down on paper are the most difficult; I will never be able to catch them: the Forests and the Music!</p>

<p>Situated just 40 miles from the Finnish border, a children&#8217;s home in Russia has been practicing a form of charity where Finnish couples, families or senior citizens can offer to take care of a child during their vacation time. A form of charity between countries which have different economic situations is not at all unique in the world, but its benefits and motives are very little studied. The documentary follows the journey and emotions of Svetlana, an 11-year-old girl from the orphanage, and Tiina and Peter as they are brought together by good means. Does charity have the possibility to save a broken childhood? A documentary film about summer vacation in the west and into a family.</p>
<p>about the director: Iris Olsson (b. 1981), is studying documentary film at the University of Art and Design Helsinki UIAH, School of Motion Picture, Television and Production Design. She has worked as a free lancer in the field of television and film production and taught film making to children in Senegal. Summerchild is her second film made at the UIAH.</p>

<p>USA vs Al-Arian</p>
<p>The film draws an intimate family portrait that documents the American-Muslim family Al-Arian&#8217;s desperate attempt to fight terrorism charges leveled by the US Government.<br />
In February 2003, university professor and pro-Palestinian civil rights activist Sami Al-Arian was arrested in Tampa, Florida, charged with providing material support to a terror organization. For two-and-a-half years he was held in solitary confinement, denied basic privileges and given limited access to his attorneys. While the Bush administration considered this a landmark case in its campaign against international terrorism, Sami Al-Arian claims he was targeted in an attempt to silence his political views.</p>
<p>The film follows Sami Al-Arian’s wife Nahla and their five children throughout his 6 month-long trial. It is an intimate family portrait that documents the strain brought on by the trial, a battle waged both in court and in the media. The film raises questions on whether it is possible for a man like Sami Al-Arian to receive a fair trial in the United States given the current hostile environment against Muslims and the strong US support of Israel. It presents democracy in a new light in a post-9/11 culture of fear. It is also an example of how the American government’s hunt for terrorists is a struggle that can be seen from multiple angles.</p>

Before she started working with films she had also graduated from The University of Oslo studying Social- Anthropology, Geography and World Religions as well as working with refugees for the Norwegian Peoples Aid. She has directed numerous TV- drama episodes and short films as well as 11 short documentaries. The Desert Castle is her first 50 minute documentary.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>When director Henri Seng started the Nordic Documentary Film Festival Beijing two years ago, he had no specific agenda-only to bring a collection of good documentaries to Beijing. Now going on its third year, the festival continues the influx of quality film making. Taking place this year at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art（UCCA）in 798, the festival will feature a collection of ten documentaries made by directors and products from the Nordic region.</p>
<p>The filmmakers collectively hail from a handful of countries with a total population not much larger than Beijing’s, but when it comes to content, this year’s films target a smorgasbord of locations around the globe, and present a line-up of some of the most compelling cinema classifiable under this year’s theme of “International News Stories.” The selection for this year’s festival began at Sweden’s Tempo Documentary Film Festival, where Seng served as a member of the festival’s jury. “We tried to stay away from the made-for-TV style of documentary, with lots of narration and interviews,”says Anouchka van Driel, who runs Nordox with Seng.</p>
<p>Among the selection is the hauntingly poetic <em>Paradise: Three Journeys in the World,</em> a film separated into three stories telling of African emigration to Europe, each of which rip apart the fantasy of seeking out the better life abroad. The film juxtapose the two continents and creates a striking contrast between the different landscapes and cultures, vividly portraying the hardships borne by Africans who look towards Europe for a way out of poverty. One story follows the lives of illegal immigrants who sleep on the streets while working at a farm in Spain picking tomatoes to sell on European markets, while another documents the life of a man who tried to swim to Spain from Morocco, is captured, driven hours into the middle of the desert and abandoned.</p>
<p>The focus of these films is certainly on international news-for example, <em>USA vs Al-Arian</em> calls attention to the unjust detainment of terrorist suspects in the United States, and <em>Belarussian Waltz</em> tells of a single Belarus activist’s lone protests against the government. But Seng’s personal top pick of the festival, Sanctuary, is cut from a different cloth：Hardcore punk musician David Sandström goes home to Sweden after the dramatic breakup of Refused, his legendary straight-edge-hard-core punk band. In the film，Sandström’s grandmother gives him the books of Sara Lidman and the photographs of Sune Jonsson, which become an integral element of the film. Words and photos are weaved together with Sandström’s music to present an Introspective journey home from an unusual angle — one that begins in the hardcore underground punk clubs of the United States and ends in a quiet Swedish countryside, where Sandström grew up. “It has a very new style of editing” Seng remarks.</p>
<p>The selection will also include some lighthearted films; To China on a Shoestring, for instance, is about two Norwegian backpackers who hitchhike to China across Europe, Turkey, Iran and Pakistan，and how they are able to do it without carrying any money. The film bridges the 10,000km wide geographical gap by showing the strangers they befriend along the way-itself exactly the cultural gap the festival is trying to cross.</p>
<p>The global scope of these film is, each in its own way, very local and human. Though they may involve people and places on the other side of the planet, “stories like these can happen anywhere in the world” van Driel states. “That’s the good thing about film art,” says Seng, “you can tell a story in so many different ways.”</p>

In 2007 Nordox collaborated with Greenpeace China, MIDI music festival and the 798 festival in screening the film &#8220;The Planet&#8221; , one of the largest documentary productions in the history of the Swedish television company. The film was chosen to foster more environmental awareness and action among the Chinese  youth.

<p>《地球》在试图寻找一种答案，有关正在兑现的全球变化警兆的真实与否。它是北欧有史以来覆盖面最广的一个纪录片项目。摄制组用了两年时间在世界各地走访了 25个国家。电影《地球》以完美的影像视觉语言和震撼人心的内容引发了社会各阶层对环境问题的关注。《地球》讲述的不仅仅是气候变化，它更多是的关于地球本身的一种全球范围的变化。而这一切与我们的未来 息息相关。</p>

北欧大型环境记录片《地球》（The Planet）在中国的首映即将落户2007迷笛音乐节，届时该片将在现场主舞台对面的绿色和平展区循环放映，给“绿色与和平”为主题的迷笛音乐节涂抹上了浓重的环保色彩。在娱乐消遣的场所展映该片的确有些耐人寻味，很难想象谁会对展映效果抱有信心，但该片的瑞典导演约翰•索德伯格（Johan Soderberg）却相当自信，作为这部84分钟记录片唯一的剪辑师，他确信该片独特的影像表达也必定会俘获中国观众的心。
“传媒大盗”修成正果
约翰•索德伯格是瑞典当今最好的电影剪辑师之一，麦当娜的记录片《I’m Going to Tell You a Secret》的剪辑效果就出自他的“魔力之掌”。音乐人出身的索德伯格生活中最大的嗜好就是当DJ，一提到音乐他就会兴趣盎然。他说，“我热爱音乐，我知道音乐对人们意味着什么，把人们召唤到一起来跳舞是一件非常重要的事情！”
索德伯格将于5月2日应邀亲临《地球》展映现场与中国观众见面交流。他毫不掩饰即将亲临音乐节现场的兴奋心情，他说，“瑞典电视台去年就制作了一部关于迷笛节的记录短片，那个地方看上去真的很棒！我会在5月3日迷笛节现场的DJ营地表演一个小时，我还会在5月5日大山子798艺术节现场的派对上表演，我希望能有很多人一起来跳舞。”
索德伯格对他“自玩成材”的经历相当坦白，“我最开始涉足视觉领域时其实就是一个传媒大盗，我从电视节目、记录片和新闻节目中偷窃影像资料，为我自己的乐队炮制出家庭制作的录像带，其中的某些作品上世纪90年代就曾在音乐电视及其它频道上播出过。如今版权法更加严格了，我就不会那么做了。不管怎样，后来诞生的若干部纪实记录片以及我作为职业剪辑师的崭新生活皆源自于我曾经有过的这段经历。”
学生时代的索德伯格主修的专业是古典派及现代派的打击乐。“我发现玩音乐和玩剪辑之间有许多相似之处，”他说。“我制作的记录片大多都跟政治、宗教和环境问题有关。我参与执导剪辑的电影作品包括《Information Is Free》（1994）、《Electronic Pollution》（1995）、《Lucky People Center International》（1998）、《Tokyo Noise》（2002）、《Surplus》（2003）、《Read My Lips》（2004）、《The Voice》（2005）和《The Planet》（2006）。”
《地球》见证全球变化
人类赖以生存的地球健康状况若真的出了问题，而这些问题恰恰是跟人类活动有关的话，那么这种全球性的危机就变成了全人类的危机，如今诸多领域的科学家和研究人员都在以各自的方式踏遍地球追踪全球变化的蛛丝马迹，他们在寻找全球变暖的证据方面似乎已有所斩获。其实全球有人类活动的地方没有人类活动活的地方都在发生这样那样或多或少的变化，北欧电影人去年9月出品的大型环境记录片《地球》也从多种角度最直接地告诉人们全球变化已是不争的事实。
《地球》摄制组花了两年的时间走访了25个国家，访问了29位相关的专家和学者。拍摄《地球》是一个耗费时间和精力的项目，索德伯格要与迈克尔•斯滕伯格（Michael Stenberg）和莱纳斯•托雷尔（Linus Torell）领衔执导。“我们另外还有四位副导演分头率领各自的摄制组环球采访，” 索德伯格说，“我们必须直接获取所有事实的第一手资料，我们需要许多研究人员，其实在我开始全面介入这个项目的工作之前，迈克尔•斯滕伯格在这方面的研究至少已有两年，大多数科学性质的采访都是他去完成。”
索德伯格在这个项目中并没未去现场执导，但影片的剪辑工作最终是他一手包办的。他说，“我开始着手《地球》的剪辑工作的时候，我会把自己想象成一个平常人，仅仅是有那么一点点关注，而绝非是什么环保主义者，在剪辑这部片子的过程中我的确改变了许多，我对这个地球上事物之间相互联系的意识极大地增强了，这种意识的增强来得缓慢，而只有这种意识上的缓慢增强才会渐渐地落实在行动上。可是我依然喜爱旅行，喜欢品尝从世界各进口的食物，要成为一个坚定的环保主义者并非易情。”
当索德伯格被问及像他一样身处低地国家的人们是否对全球变暖更为敏感时，他说，“我只能说我们所有的人都将遭受全球变暖的影响，在全球化的文化环境里，我们之间都是相互关联的，当成千上万的亚撒哈拉地区的非洲人不得不迁徙他乡时，就必将会在欧洲和全球引起反响，至于说谁能够遏制人类无尽无休的欲望，我想当你的邻居正在遭受全球变暖影响时，你就会积极地行动起来。我相信当我们意识到被引向何方的时候，这些问题终将会变成倍受关注的问题。我对年轻一代将来在学校和家里获得这种意识抱有很高的期望，到时候情况将会有所改观。”
“颠覆性”的影像表达
枯燥乏味题材严肃的影片经过索德伯格的一番剪辑很可能会被弄出意想不到的效果，多数情况下他会顺便把影片的音乐制作也包办下来，有业内人士评价说索德伯格做电影是很有控制力，他赋予《地球》的影像语言非常平和有时甚至是愉快的，但影片内容所触及的问题却是沉重而严峻的。他创造的影像语言非常独特，人们一眼就能够认出是他的风格。
让索德伯格真正出尽风头的是一部由电影短片组成的系列作品《Read My Lips》。据索德伯格本人介绍，该系列作品是他2001年至2003年期间陆续为瑞典电视台一档电视节目打造的，曾经在互联网上抢尽风头，布什和布莱尔对唱经典情歌《Endless Love》的那期节目堪称是互联网上最受网民追捧的作品之一，被点击下载的次数高达数百万次之多。  在索德伯格个人的官方网站上，点击播放《Read My Lips》的按钮，布什和布莱尔的画面就会交替出现，他们的嘴唇在动但讲话的声音却被莱昂纳尔•里奇（Lionel Richie）和戴安娜 •罗斯（Diana Ross）的深情歌声所置换，巧妙的对口形“把戏”被索德伯格拿捏得恰到好处，“谐谑”的影像表达却也深化了短片的寓意，索德伯格凭借这一创造性的“杰作”声名鹊起，他的大胆尝试颠覆了以往严肃题材的影像表达。 索德伯格剪辑《地球》这部影片时，他依然在追求更为独特的影像表达。他说，“这个项目艺术方面所要聚焦的中心问题就在于做出一部确实能俘获新观众的电影。我们都知道科教影片的模样和腔调，总是那么谦恭那么正确，而我们做这部影片并不是为了跟那些早已熟知这些东西的人进行沟通。在这方面我们获得了巨大的成功，至今一直是好评如潮，年轻观众的好评居多，我得说对年轻一代我们寄予了厚望！如果我们一直就这么不思悔改地走下去，我们子孙后代的未来就不会美好。中国人民对于创造美好未来所能发挥的作用并不是无足轻重！西方国家应该在谋求可持续生活方式上迈出第一步，我们才能指望印度和中国的年轻一代不会盲从地走上西方过度消费文化的穷途末路。”（完）

<p>当索德伯格被问及像他一样身处低地国家的人们是否对全球变暖更为敏感时，他说，“我只能说我们所有的人都将遭受全球变暖的影响，在全球化的文化环境里，我们之间都是相互关联的，当成千上万的亚撒哈拉地区的非洲人不得不迁徙他乡时，就必将会在欧洲和全球引起反响，至于说谁能够遏制人类无尽无休的欲望，我想当你的邻居正在遭受全球变暖影响时，你就会积极地行动起来。我相信当我们意识到被引向何方的时候，这些问题终将会变成倍受关注的问题。我对年轻一代将来在学校和家里获得这种意识抱有很高的期望，到时候情况将会有所改观。”<br />
“颠覆性”的影像表达</p>
<p>枯燥乏味题材严肃的影片经过索德伯格的一番剪辑很可能会被弄出意想不到的效果，多数情况下他会顺便把影片的音乐制作也包办下来，有业内人士评价说索德伯格做电影是很有控制力，他赋予《地球》的影像语言非常平和有时甚至是愉快的，但影片内容所触及的问题却是沉重而严峻的。他创造的影像语言非常独特，人们一眼就能够认出是他的风格。</p>
<p>让索德伯格真正出尽风头的是一部由电影短片组成的系列作品《Read My Lips》。据索德伯格本人介绍，该系列作品是他2001年至2003年期间陆续为瑞典电视台一档电视节目打造的，曾经在互联网上抢尽风头，布什和布莱尔对唱经典情歌《Endless Love》的那期节目堪称是互联网上最受网民追捧的作品之一，被点击下载的次数高达数百万次之多。  在索德伯格个人的官方网站上，点击播放《Read My Lips》的按钮，布什和布莱尔的画面就会交替出现，他们的嘴唇在动但讲话的声音却被莱昂纳尔•里奇（Lionel Richie）和戴安娜 •罗斯（Diana Ross）的深情歌声所置换，巧妙的对口形“把戏”被索德伯格拿捏得恰到好处，“谐谑”的影像表达却也深化了短片的寓意，索德伯格凭借这一创造性的“杰作”声名鹊起，他的大胆尝试颠覆了以往严肃题材的影像表达。 索德伯格剪辑《地球》这部影片时，他依然在追求更为独特的影像表达。他说，“这个项目艺术方面所要聚焦的中心问题就在于做出一部确实能俘获新观众的电影。我们都知道科教影片的模样和腔调，总是那么谦恭那么正确，而我们做这部影片并不是为了跟那些早已熟知这些东西的人进行沟通。在这方面我们获得了巨大的成功，至今一直是好评如潮，年轻观众的好评居多，我得说对年轻一代我们寄予了厚望！如果我们一直就这么不思悔改地走下去，我们子孙后代的未来就不会美好。中国人民对于创造美好未来所能发挥的作用并不是无足轻重！西方国家应该在谋求可持续生活方式上迈出第一步，我们才能指望印度和中国的年轻一代不会盲从地走上西方过度消费文化的穷途末路。”（完）</p>
